DOs and DON’Ts
Dos & Don’ts in Tibet:
- Do not interfere on local’s home, tents, land or private activities. Show respect for locals private property and personal space. Please ask before entering private properties.
- Avoid discussing political issues with locals (Tibetans) for you may put them in politically difficult or even potential dangerous situation. Do not handout photos of the Dalai Lama and politically sensitive materials.
- Do not break local laws and regulations. Please make sure that you have the correct Tibet Travel permits- your tour guide/ tour company or host could be fined or may even lose their license.
- Do not be disrespectful at religious sites wearing shorts or revealing clothing or being intimate in public.
- Do not swim in holy lakes, sit on holy and sacred sites or walk on or step over prayer flags.
- Please make sure you do not buy any products which are made up of endangered wildlife or plants.
- Most of the local villages do not have environmentally sound trash management systems, please pack your garbage out to larger towns or cities when it can be disposed.
- If there is no toilet at the place you require, dig a hole at least 25 cm deep and bury human waste. Burn or bury toilet paper.
