Tibet VISA Information

TIBET TRAVEL PERMITS AND VISA PROCESS

 

ARRIVING LHASA VIA MAINLAND CHINA:

  • If you are planning to arrive in Lhasa via mainland China, you would need to apply for your Chinese visa from the Chinese Embassy in your country. (*Note: Please do not mention Lhasa/Tibet while applying China Visa as it may create confusion and delays in obtaining China visa)
  • Once you have the Chinese visa, you will need to scan the visa and email it to us along with the copy of your passport (face copy). Both the documents should be clear and readable otherwise it will be rejected by the Tibet Travel Bureau in Tibet (TTB).
  • Please note that you would not be eligible for the Tibet travelling permit without the Chinese visa.
  • On the basis of the copies of the Chinese visa and passport, we apply for your Tibet Travel Permit from the TTB. With the combination of the Tibet permit and Chinese visa you would be allowed to enter Tibet from the mainland China. It is impossible for any tourists to board a train or flight to Tibet without Tibet Travel Permit. The permit specify every destination you will be visiting and can’t change once you arrive in Tibet.
  • Once your Tibet permit is issued, you can collect it from anywhere in mainland China where you are supposed to arrive or have it delivered at your hotel you would be staying while in mainland China. Upon arrival at hotel you need to ask for that document in the front desk (reception counter).

 

 REQUIRED DOCUMENT FOR PERMITS PROCESS:

  • Clear Scan copy of Passport (35 days before trip start)
  • Clear Scan copy of China Visa (35 days before trip start)
  • Detailed Hotel address of any cites of Main Land China where you spend at least 1 night (10 days before trip start)

 

ARRIVING TIBET VIA KATHMANDU BY AIR OR OVERLAND VIA KYIRONG OR SIMIKOT BORDER:

  • If you are planning to fly to Lhasa via Kathmandu or go overland via Kyirong or Simikot border, you would need to arrive in Kathmandu at least 4 days before trip to Tibet starts.
  • Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu issues visa on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdayand Friday from 1000 hrs to 1600 hrs.
  • In order to get the Tibet visa, we would need to show your original passport at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu. As such, our operating officer who would be at the airport to receive and transfer you to your respective hotel would collect the passport from you and get the visa. Visa comes in an A4 size paper with the name, sex, nationality, passport number, date of birth, occupation of each member listed in the group. The date of entry and exit are also mentioned.

 

 REQUIRED DOCUMENT FOR PERMTIS PROCESS:

  • Clear Scan copy of Passport (30 days before trip start)

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENT FOR TIBET VISA PROCESS: (UPON ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU, NEPAL)

  • Regular / Ordinary passport (minimum 3 working days before trip start date)
  • Photocopy of passport
  • 1 Photo
  • Chinese Visa forms fill up by client
  • Visa fee by NPR Cash

 

SPECIAL NOTE TO CONSIDER:

  • Do not apply for the Chinese visa in your country if you are intending to travel to Tibet via Kathmandu (Nepal). If you had applied for the Chinese visa in your country prior to arrival in Kathmandu, it would be automatically cancelled when we get the Tibet visa in Kathmandu.
  • The Chinese/Tibet visa you get in Kathmandu is a group visa and is not entered in travelers passports but on a separate sheet of paper – be it one person or a group consisting of two or more persons.

From 01st of June 2017 Chinese embassy do not accept visa request without complete documentation.

  • All the details must be filled up as mentioned in the form.
  • Correct details on current occupation / School/College name with details address and contact number and designation is mandatory.
  • Applicant must provide 1 photo with correct photo size provided by embassy (mandatory)
  • Visa applicants are required to pay a non- refundable and non- transferable visa application fee during document submission day. The visa application fee must be paid whether a visa is issued or not.

 

CHINESE EMBASSY WORKING DAYS: MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY 

TIME:  09:00 AM TO 12:00 PM

  • Require minimum 3 working days to obtain visa from embassy.
  • There is no Extreme Urgent (2 working days) visa service
  • Visa Section has stop accepting Extreme Urgent visa service effective from 5thof June, 2017 until further notice.

Special note:

  • We cannot apply Tibet permits and visa on diplomatic passports, official passport, UN passport.
  • All International tourists must travel Tibet with ordinary/regular passport.
  • If clients have official visa on regular/ordinary passport, then we need letter from concern department clarifying nature of work, designation and purpose of visit to Tibet.
  • Official visa on regular/ordinary passport may delay on visa process.
