Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu – Gonggar Airport drive to hotel in Tsedang (100 km 2h.20m) 3100 m

Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa (1 hour 35 minute). The Trans-Himalayan flight will enchant you with the spectacular, breathtaking view if Himalayan ranges. You will see the most of the highest mountains on the earth including Mt. Everest. Upon our arrival in Gonggar airport after immigration formality our guide will meet and greet you offering Khada (Tibetan scarf) and transfer you directly to your hotel in Tsedang. The drive will take about 2 hour 20 minutes to Tsedang. After arriving at hotel guide will help you with hotel check in formality.

Day 02: Visit Yambulakhang, Tandruk Monastery & Tomb of King (3100 m)

After Breakfast visit Yambulakhang the first building in Tibet and the palace of the first Tibetan King. Yambulakhang stand on a hill on the eastern back of the Yurlung River in the Yurlung Valley. After that visit Tandruk Monastery which is believed to be a oldest monastery founded at the same time as the Jokhang and Ramoche Monastery in Lhasa. After lunch visit Yurlung valley and Tombs of Kings.

 

Day 03: Drive to Samye (50 km 1h 30m), visit Samye Monastery then drive to Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake (295 km 6h 30m) 3975 m

Early morning we take de tour to Samye Monastery. Samye Monastery is the first Buddhist Monastery of Nginma order to be built in Tibet, probably founded during Shantarakshita, the two Indian masters the king had invited to Tibet to help consolidate the Buddhist faith. Later taken over by the Sakya tradition and more recently came under the influence of the Gelukpa. After visiting monastery drive 295 km 6 – 7 hrs straight to Gyantse, we will drive over three spectacular high passes – the Khamba La at 5100m and Karo La at 5050m and Simi La at 5000 m and over and along the beautiful Lake called Yamdrok Lake or Turquoise Lake. The Lake is surrounded by many snow capped mountains and in the distance we can have spectacular views of Holy Nyenchen Khangsar Mountain. Once we arrive at Gyantse town we can enjoy the far view of Gyantse Fortress.

 

Day 04: Visit Khumbum Stupa & Pelkhor Chorten then drive to Shigatse (95 km, 2h) 3900 m

Morning we will visit Khumbum Stupa, the giant octagonal Stupa is one of the outstanding architectural achievements build and decorated by a Gyantse Prince. Rising 35 meters high, the Stupa is said to have 108 Cells in the 9 levels / floor surmounted by a golden dome, and contains 77 chapels which line its walls. Next to it is Pelkhor Chode Monastery. The monastery is located in the north of the town adjacent to the fort, containing 15 different chapels and halls belong to different orders of Tibetan Buddhism. After visiting Gyantse Khumbum we drive 2 hours, 95 km straight to Shigaste the second largest town in Tibet. Shigatse was one of the first towns to be visited by westerners due to close distance with Indian border.

 

Day 05: Visit TashiLhunpo Monastery & Local Market then drive to Lhasa via Northern Route (285 km, 6h – 7h) 3600 m

Morning we visit the TashiLhunpo Monastery which holds both historical and cultural importance for being founded in 1447 at the time of 1st Dalia Lama Gendun Drupa who is a disciple of Tsongkapa. Hence the monastery is also one of the biggest functioning monasteries of Gelugpa. The monastery is the traditional seat of successive Panchen Lamas, the second highest ranking tulku lineage in the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. After visiting monastery we will visit the local markets for shopping and local sightseeing then we continue our journey to Lhasa via northern route. This is the shortest road between Lhasa and Shigatse. Road offer spectacular view of Tibetan Plateau and drive along the famous river called “Yarlung Tsangpo”.

 

Day 06: Visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple & Barkhor Market and 3600 m

This morning we visit the Potala Palace, winter home of the Dalai Lamas and most famous landmark in the world. Although the palace cannot be freely explored, you will experience some if its chapels including audience hall, the golden burial Chorten (Tomb) of Past Dalai Lamas, tremendous number of painting done on wall, Statue, Thangka and Mandala etc.

After lunch we will visit Jokhang Temple, the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism and important sacred site in Tibet.  The Temple was founded during the reign of King Songtsen Gampo for his two brides Princess Wencheng of the Chinese Tang Dynasty and Princes Bhrikuti of Nepal, both are said to have brought important Buddhist image and statues from Nepal & China to Tibet as part of their dowries. After visiting Temple explore Barkhor surrounding, watch the pilgrims prostrating themselves near the front gate of Jokhang Temple. Take part in clockwise circuit walking round the temple, walk around narrow alley to explore old Lhasa city.

 

Day 07: Visit Drepung Monastery & Sera Monastery: 3600 m

This morning we will drive 8 km northwest of Lhasa to visit Drepung Monastery which is one of the “great three” Geluk Monasteries of Tibet, founded by Jamyang Choje in 1416. The Drepung is the largest of all Tibetan monasteries and once a home of as many as 10000 monks. This winter Palace was the resident of hundreds of monks from all the major Geluk monasteries for staffing individual Chapels. In the afternoon drive 5km away from Lhasa to Sera Monastery founded in 1419, which is another one of the “ great three” Geluk monasteries of Tibet. Monastery is well known for the monks debate at around 3 – 5 in the afternoon.

 

Day 08: Transfer to Gonggar Airport, fly to back to Kathmandu

You will be driven to the airport in time to catch your flight back to Kathmandu

Morning drive 265 km 5 to 6 hour straight to Gyantse, we will drive over three spectacular high passes – the Khamba La at 5100m and Karo La at 5050m and Simi La at 5000 m and over and along the beautiful Lake called Yamdrok Lake or Turquoise Lake. The Lake is surrounded by many snow capped mountains and in the distance we can have spectacular views of Holy Nyenchen Khangsar Mountain. From shegar we drive off route leaving the Friendship Highway and drive towards Base Camp driving over Pang La pass (5150m) from where we can see incredible view of Himalayan range stretching from Mt. Malaku to Mt. Shisapangma. Before arriving at the Rongbuk.

 

Day 06: Visit Rongbuk Monastery & EBC (5200 m) then drive to Kyirong (410 km, 9 to 10 h) 2790 m

Early morning before arriving at the Qomolangma/Everest Base Camp we stop at the world highest Rongbuk Monastery at (4980 m) visit EBC then we drive to Tingri and drive straight 323 km which may takes about 7 to 8 hrs to reach Kerung/Gyirong Town. Gyirong means village of comfort and happiness in Tibetan. On the way to Gyirong we may catch a glimpse of the majestic Mt. Everest and other peaks over 8000m such as Shisapangma, high pass over 5000 m and Piku Tso Lake.  Today, the difference in landscape is quite special, the barren rugged landscape of Tibet to the mighty Himalayas, where the scenery changes to rich forests, typical of the Nepalese foothills. At the recent earthquake in Nepal it serves as the main port of entry into Tibet when coming overland to and from Nepal.

 

Day 07: Kyirong – Kathmandu: (1300 m) 157 km 8 – 9 hrs

After breakfast, Drive 24 km approximately 1 hour downhill to reach Chinese immigration (Rasuwa Gadi bridge) after immigration process we walk through Bridge where vehicle from Nepal side will be waiting, After driving for about 1.5 km we do immigration formality in Nepal side and continue drive to Kathmandu by now you will have entered into a completely different landscape one which is vastly different from just where you were a few days ago. The Nepali foothills and the greenery will make the drive pleasant and enjoyable. Transferred to Hotel in Kathmandu

Day 04: Day Trip to Ganden (upper Kora 2 – 3 hrs & Lower kora 45 min – 1hr) 4300 m and back to Lhasa 3600 m

Morning drive approximately 50 km northeast of Lhasa to Ganden, the monastery is one of the three great Gelukpa sect religious centers in the Lhasa area, is cradled in a natural amphitheater high above the Kyi Chu River. It was built in 1409 by the founder of Yellow Hat sect. Master Tsongkapa and is the first Gelugpa monastery and has been the main seat of the major Buddhist order ever since. After visiting the monastery, we get ready to hike a bit around it (Upper Kora), on the hiking path you can see lot of carved Buddhist scriptures on the rock and pilgrims circling the monastery and stupendous views of the surrounding Kyi Chu Valley below you and the miles of mountain range in the clear weather day. After finishing the Kora, we can have lunch at the local restaurant and return back to Lhasa city.

 

Day 05: Transfer to Gonggar Airport, fly to back to Kathmandu

Day 01: Fly to Gonggar airport drive to Lhasa: 3600 m

Transfer to Airport. An hour flight to Lhasa will enchant you with the spectacular, breathtaking view of the Himalayan Ranges. You will see most of the highest mountains on earth including Mt. Everest. Arrive in Gonggar airport and take a 1.5 hour drive to Lhasa along the banks of the river Kyi-chu that flows through to Lhasa. The drive will take you to the west of the city at Dongkar, and just west of Dongkar the Potala Palace will be visible from afar.  At 3600m, it is advisable to take the rest of the day in leisure in order to acclimatize. You can go around the hotel area for light walk and sightseeing.

 

Day 02: Lhasa – Visit Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Market: 3600 m

This morning we visit the Potala Palace, winter palace of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, It is a 13th storied complex monument rising to a height of above 117m which houses 10,000 shrines and over 200,000 images and about 1000 rooms. Later visit Norbulingka Palace which is also called the “Jewel Park”, is a large open area about four kilometers to the west of Lhasa, and referred to as the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. Since the time of the Eight Dalai Lama, the park has been used as a summer palace, retreat and recreation area for the successive Dalai Lamas. In the afternoon we will take a tour of Jokhang Temple.  Jokhang a seventh-century geomantic temple at the heart of Lhasa is the most sacred temple of all Tibet. It is considered to be a Power Place in all Tibet. Queen Bhrikuti a Nepalese princess married to King Songtsen Gampo founded Jokhang Temple and in recognition of Queen Bhrikuti the main gate of the temple faces west towards Nepal.  The most impressive structure of the Jokhang Temple is the many chapels surrounding the temple.  Later you can walk and shop in the popular Bakhor Square (Bazaar) where Tibetan handicraft items, Buddhist artifacts, carpets, paintings etc. are all in sale for your delight.

 

Day 03: Drive to Gyantse 265 km 5 – 6 hrs (3950 m), visit Khumbum Stupa & Pelkhor Chorten then drive to Shigatse 95 km 2 hrs (3900 m)

Leaving Lhasa and a long drive of 265 km, taking about 5/6 hours including break for lunch at one of the villages’ en-route. We will drive over two spectacular high passes – the Kampa La at 4750m and Karo La at 5050m, over, and along the beautiful deep blue green Lake called Yamdrok Lake or Turquoise Lake. The landscape of the Tibetan Plateau is truly unusual and spectacular.  We will arrive in Gyantse an old Tibetan Town against a backdrop of magnificent 14th-15th century fortresses and temples.  Here we will visit Pelkhor Chode Temple, which served the Gelug Sakya and Buluk orders. Here the Kumbum Stupa is an architectural masterpiece built in the style of 108-sided Mandela. It is the most revered stupa in Tibet and houses 112 chapels of which only 23 are open to the public. After sighsteeig drive 2 hours, 95km straight drive to Shigatse the second largest town in Tibet. Shigatse was one of the first towns to be visited by westerners due to close distance with the Indian border.

 

Day 04: Visit Tashilimphu Monastery & Local Market then drive to Lhasa via Northern Route 285 km, 6 – 7 hrs (3600 m)

Morning visit Tashilhunpu Monastery. His Holiness the Panchen Lama (great scholar), the second highest spiritual figure in Tibet after His Holiness The Dalai Lama. The Fifth Dalai Lama built this artistic Palace. There are about 39 amazing chapels inside the Palace including the huge Maitreya Chapel coated with gold, its workmanship certainly impresses everyone, Tushita Chapel containing one thousand small statues of Tsongkhapa founder of Geluk order. Victory Chapel, which is concerted into a school for study and inside the chapel there is a huge gold image of Tsokapa and his two disciples and also the Tomb of the Tenth Panchen Lama just to name a few.  In the
afternoon, we will visit the local markets for shopping and local sightseeing then we continue our journey to Lhasa via northern route. This is the shortest road between Lhasa and Shigatse. Road offer spectacular view of Tibetan Plateau and drive along the famous river Yurlung Tsangpo.
